Wolfmachine Cerveira engloba uma instalação bio-electrónica (Wolfmachine) e registos vídeo de implantações na paisagem (Wolfmachine video), até à data de abertura da exposição Espaço/Programa na Fundação Bienal de Cerveira. Esta obra está patente na extensão da exposição Espaço/Programa no Convento de Santo António, Loulé, de 15 Julho a 10 Setembro 2022. Na abertura às 19h, haverá uma performance audiovisual de @c (Pedro Tudela & Miguel Carvalhais) e André Sier.

Wolfmachine é uma obra bio-electrónica desenhada para lobos e ecosistemas não-humanos, constituída por mini faróis-laser electrónicos, robotizados e programados de raiz, espalhados na paisagem, que cantam em sincronia padrões visuais, através da emissão ritmada e composta de feixes de luz laser verde para o céu e paisagem envolvente. A composição generativa executada pelos lasers é baseada nos dados históricos da evolução da população lupina em Portugal durante o século XX. Cada década de dados dos concelhos portugueses recolhidos pela investigação científica do Grupo Lobo consiste em registos de avistamentos de lobos vivos ou mortos onde é possível observar a distribuição geográfica do Canis lupus signatus ao longo do tempo (1901-2000), até à sua actual quase extinção.

A composição electrónica, repetida de forma única e generativa de hora a hora, está dividida em 10 secções, onde estas, representando uma década de dados, têm durações equi-temporais de 2.5 minutos, e onde os dados numéricos de presença lupina em Portugal agrupados por regiões sul, centro e norte determinam os tipos de movimentos executados pelos lasers, bem como o ritmo dos seus pulsos lumínicos. Wolfmachine video apresenta esta visualização de dados ao longo do século XX e registos vídeo de implantações de Wolfmachine na paisagem, e serve de fundo vídeo a instalações da obra em contextos expositivos. Os lasers na paisagem visualizam a quase extinção do predador ápice essencial à biodiversidade florestal através de cânticos electrónicos. Wolfmachine é uma obra bio-electrónica dos lobos e para os lobos, que simultaneamente funciona como uma barreira de protecção visual na paisagem para os animais, e como metáfora do encontro de uivos de lobos, nas suas alcateias, que se juntam para entoar cânticos quase xamânicos, telecomunicando com o desconhecido e evocando presságios protectores.

Wolfmachine Cerveira includes a bio-electronic installation (Wolfmachine) and video recordings of implantations in the landscape (Wolfmachine video), until the opening date of the Space/Program exhibition at the Fundação Bienal de Cerveira. This work is on view in the extension of the Espaço/Programa exhibition at Convento de Santo António, Loulé, from 15 July to 10 September 2022. Wolfmachine is a bio-electronic work designed for wolves and non-human ecosystems, consisting of electronic mini-laser lights, robotic and programmed from scratch, spread across the landscape, which sing in sync with visual patterns, through the rhythmic emission and composed of beams of green laser light for the sky and surrounding landscape. The generative composition performed by the lasers is based on historical data on the evolution of the lupus population in Portugal during the 20th century. Each decade of data from the Portuguese municipalities collected by Grupo Lobo’s scientific research consists of records of sightings of live or dead wolves where it is possible to observe the geographical distribution of Canis lupus signatus over time (1901-2000), until its current almost extinction.

The electronic composition, repeated in a unique and generative way from hour to hour, is divided into 10 sections, where these, representing a decade of data, have equi-temporal durations of 2.5 minutes, and where the numerical data of wolf presence in Portugal are grouped together. by southern, central and northern regions determine the types of movements performed by the lasers, as well as the rhythm of their luminous pulses. Wolfmachine video presents this visualization of data throughout the 20th century and video recordings of Wolfmachine implantations in the landscape, and serves as a video background for installations of the work in exhibition contexts. The lasers in the landscape visualize the near extinction of the apex predator essential to forest biodiversity through electronic chants. Wolfmachine is a bio-electronic work by wolves and for wolves, which simultaneously functions as a visual protection barrier in the landscape for the animals, and as a metaphor for the encounter of howling wolves, in their packs, which come together to chant almost shamans, telecommunicating with the unknown and evoking protective omens.
