I. A Geometria do Sol Primeiro

(Timaeus 24e)

maior que a Líbia e a Ásia juntas.
não é mapa. é geometria. do sol primeiro.
filha encantada, enfeitiçante. oricalcum de mel,
caminhável, jogável, executável.

(André Sier, Atlantis Ἀτλάς Residence)

É o mesomphalos do mundo Atlante.
O plano alto. Os anéis Dedáleos concêntricos.
A cidade mar, terra dos três círculos irregulares.

3000 estádios de comprimento. 2000 de largura.
Montanhas que ascendem do mar,
plantadas de minerais e florestas.

A oeste das Colunas de Héracles.
No oceano que era então navegável.
Antes de o lodo a abraçar.

(André Sier, Atlantis Ἀτλάς Residence)

É o mesomphalos — o umbigo do mundo atlante.

II. O Projecto

Imagem gráfica do projecto Atlantis: Protocolos Diluvianos, (c) André Sier 2026.

(Timaeus 25d)

A residência Ἀτλάς/Atlas (Set/Out 2026) de Atlântida: Protocolos Diluvianos produziu e prototipou:

  • Desenhos — Ἀτλαντὶς Δράω (Atlantis Draw)
  • Esculturas — Castelos no Mar (Red.*.Stls)
  • Ambientes sonoros e desenhos digitais, Atlantis Scuba Dive
  • Interfaces surfáveis

Desenhos — Ἀτλαντὶς Draw

“Memory is a weariness of the eyes. It seeks a shape where there is only motion. It seeks a shore where there is only drift.”

“Water is something you cannot hold. Like men. I have tried. Father, brother, lover, true friends, hungry ghosts and God, one by one all took themselves out of my hands.”

Anne Carson, “The Anthropology of Water”

“My thoughts are lesions in my brain. My brain is a scar. I want to be a machine. Arms for grabbing Legs to walk on, no pain no thinking.”

VI.

I. The Geometry of the Sun First

— the island was larger than Libya and Asia combined.

(Timaeus 24e)

larger than Libya and Asia combined.
is not map. it’s geometry. of the sun first.
enchanted, bewitching daughter. honey orichalcum,
walkable, playable, executable.

(André Sier, Atlantis Ἀτλάς Residence)

The Atlas region, on the Atlantean continent, corresponds to the central plain: the zone of concentric rings of sea and land, the elevated platform upon which the capital city rose in circles. It is the geometric center, attributed to the firstborn of Poseidon. It was located west of the Promontories of Heracles, in the ocean that was then navigable (Timaeus 24e). The plain measured 3,000 stadia in length by 2,000 in width, surrounded by mountains that rose from the sea.

The Atlas region is not a periphery of the seas.
It is the mesomphalos of the Atlantean world.
The pla teau. The concentric Daedalian rings.
The sea city, land of the three irregular circles.

3000 stadia long. 2000 wide.
Mountains ascending from the sea,
planted with minerals and forests.

West of the Pillars of Heracles.
In the ocean that was then navigable.
Before the sludge hugged she.

(André Sier, Atlantis Ἀτλάς Residence)

In the center of the island, where Poseidon sculpted the mountain of Cleito into a palace and surrounded it with three rings of sea alternating with two of land, rotated as on a lathe — ἅμα τῷ τροχῷ —, the firstborn son Ἀτλάς received the widest and most beautiful portion. His dwelling, the closest to his father’s temple, extended over the central plain, where the earth was thicker and the groundwater sweeter.

The Atlas region is, in this imaginary cartography, the geometric heart of the continent: the zone of concentric rings, the elevated platform upon which the capital city rose in perfect circles. It is not a periphery. It is the mesomphalos — the navel of the Atlantean world.

II. The Project

Graphic image from the project Atlantis: Diluvian Protocols, (c) André Sier 2026.

Atlantis: Diluvian Protocols is a long-term research project in art-science, combining imaginary, (bio-)electronic, computational and playable arts, led by André Sier and produced by ArteCódigo, which has been running since 2016, within the scope of his piantadelmondo series — since 1999, 2011, this project updated and made playable imaginary cities and built spaces, often ruined by hubris and the weatherings upon the return. Nationally, Atlantis Diluvial Protocols is supported by DGArtes and the Águeda City Council, for implementation from August 2026 to December 2027. The project articulates research residencies and fieldwork, content co-creation workshops, resilient eco-technological creation residencies, national and international partnerships, and the production of works that cross archaeology, mythology, traditions, philosophy, with artistic areas of sculpture, drawing, photography, sound, installation, video, code, interactivity, interfaces, games and poetry.

The residencies of the Atlantis cycle adopt as codenames the ten royal/real (and imaginary) territories attributed to the sons of Poseidon. The first residence of Atlantis Diluvian Protocols — Ἀτλάς/Atlas — took place in September/October 2026 at ArteCódigo SRAM.

III. Works produced and prototyped

— Later, with terrible earthquakes and floods, and a day and night of misfortune occurred, your entire army was swallowed by the earth, and the island of Atlantis, in the same way, was swallowed up. It sank into the sea and disappeared.

(Timaeus 25d)

The Ἀτλάς/Atlas residence (Sept/Oct 2026) of Atlantis: Diluvian Protocols produced and prototyped:

  • Drawings — Ἀτλαντὶς Δράω (Atlantis Draw)
  • Sculptures — Castles in the Sea (Red.*.Stls)
  • Sound environments and digital drawings, Atlantis Scuba Dive
  • Surfable interfaces

Drawings — Ἀτλαντὶς Draw

Found during diving sessions. Factual records of the topographies of the various Atlantean regions. Archaeological maps documenting the now-submerged geometry of the continent. The creation of drawings under the Greek title Ἀτλαντὶς Δράω, which literally means Drawing Atlantis or Atlantis Drawn. The act of drawing here becomes a rescue protocol: tracing the geometry that the sludge hugged and buried.

Nothing has a shore. Everything has a shore. The drift of the shore, what the laser engraves in the space-drawing.

Series of sculptures in red clay, drawn in code and 3D printed from the piece Castles in the Sea (2026-27). The sculptures are produced by pairs and in pairs, and fall within an interactive work for two visitors, in which two individual elements merge into an unpredictable amalgam. The clay — a material that water dissolves and fire hardens — alludes to the πηλοῦ (sludge/mud) that, according to Plato’s text, blocked the ocean after the disaster: πηλοῦ κάρτα βραχέος ἐμποδὼν ὄντος — “being impeded by a shallow sludge” (Timaeus 25d). Mud and water give rise to the red clay of massive architectural structures that float over the waters, without a floor, fragile and impossible. Exhibited in the p0ntus gallery as part of the exhibition CnAii2627(‘ ‘, a, b), from October 1st to 31st.

— Because there was an island opposite the mouth of the river which you Greeks call, you say, the Pillars of Heracles.

(Timaeus 24e)

The Atlas region, in this geography, was located west of the Promontory of the Pillars of Heracles, in the ocean that was then navigable. The central plain — 3,000 stadia long by 2,000 wide — was the territory of the firstborn. The mountains that surrounded it rose from the sea, rich in minerals and forests. At its center, the city of the rings. Around it, the fields of Atlas: the vastest, the most fertile, the most primordial portion.

V. What the project does

— Later, with terrible earthquakes and floods, and a day and night of misfortune occurred, your entire army was swallowed by the earth, and the island of Atlantis, in the same way, was swallowed up. It sank into the sea and disappeared.

(Timaeus 25d)

The Atlantis Project: Diluvian Protocols does not seek to find Atlantis. It seeks to reconstruct it as a process: a protocol that, by drawing, by printing in clay, by generating sound, video, games, by prototyping an interface where the body is swept away by the wave, re-experiences the gesture of loss described by Plato.

— Therefore, the sea, in those places, became impassable and unexplored.

(Timaeus 25d)

The project makes it, again, explorable. Not through archaeology. Through art. Through code. Through clay printed in layers of 0.2 mm. Through an interface where the human body is, for an instant, the same body that the sea swept away.

“Water is something you can’t hold. Like men. I tried. Father, brother, lover, true friends, hungry ghosts, and God, one by one, all took them out of my hands.”

Anne Carson, “The Anthropology of Water”

Sand encrusted on paper is not adornment — it’s sediment. Algae are not decoration — they are what grew upon what was. Laser-engraved maps are not illustration — they are the memory that the seabed kept and that the surface forgot. Red clay originates massive architectural structures that float on the waters, without ground, fragile and impossible. The mud that closed the sea is the same sludge that, dried and burned, becomes a tower. The Castle in the Sea, which floats. The Castle that has nowhere to fall, because the ground has already been submerged.

“My thoughts are lesions in my brain. My brain is a scar. I want to be a machine. Arms for grabbing Legs to walk on, no pain no thinking.”

Heiner Müller, “Hamletmachine”

The traveller doesn’t ride the wave. Not even with his surfboard. He is swept away by it. The interface allows you to read the geometry of destruction while you are on it. While one is inside it. While the body is, for an instant, the same body that the sea submerged.

VI. The Nine Residences to Come

Each of the following nine residences will adopt the name of one of the nine remaining sons of Poseidon: Gadeiros, Ampheres, Evaemon, Mneseus, Autochthon, Elassippos, Mestor, Azaes, Diaprepes. Each territory will have its imaginary geography, its materiality, its protocol. Its sculptures. Its photographs. Its videos. In the hovering moments of the waves’ clashes. On the shores, without shores. Each Atlantis game, its geolocation, its tradition, its mythology, its philosophy, its poetry, playable.

The Ἀτλάς/Atlas Residence was the first. It was the center. It was the point from which the wave departed.

— And the island of Atlantis, in the same way, sank into the sea and disappeared.

(Timaeus 25d)

But the mud it left behind — πηλοῦ — is still there. And the red clay, code-drawn and manufactured in volumes of ~10cm³, is a piece of that mud that has returned to the surface.
